A Few of My Favorite Things

Fri Jul 18, 2008 at 10:34:57 PM PDT

The cool people are in Austin, including my future wife.  It's a boring and rainy night in Iowa City.  You might as well suffer with me.

Join me below for some of my favorite things.

Iowa is Under Water and the Rain Keeps Falling

Thu Jun 12, 2008 at 09:46:47 AM PDT

The situation in eastern Iowa is reaching crisis stage.  Flood levels are in the 500 year flood zone and the rivers have not yet crested.  Officials in Cedar Rapids, Coralville, and Iowa City have issued mandatory evacuation orders in portions of their cities and more are probably around the corner. The Iowa River will crest early next week at stages much higher than the historic floods of 1993.   Things are going to get a whole lot worse before they get better.

Thu Jan 03, 2008 at 06:26:14 PM PDT

I just got back and wanted to spread my news.

Final delegate count for West Liberty Precinct:

Richardson: 2
Edwards: 2

Obama had 40 more caucusers than the nearest competitor.

Fired Up! Ready to Go!

Tue Jan 01, 2008 at 12:37:20 PM PDT

Let the Townhouse bloggers have their fun with their bullshit stories based on bullshit talking points fed to them from jeebus knows where.  Those of us on the ground have no time for pundits who would rather fight the war of ideas at home instead of putting their energy into electing Democrats.

Racism and Bigotry Have a Found a Home on Daily Kos

Fri Nov 09, 2007 at 09:04:58 PM PDT

Two weeks ago kid oakland posted a diary called Racism and Bigotry have no place on DailyKos. The premise was clear:

outright racism and bigotry have no place in our community.

On the day he wrote that I couldn't have agreed more enthusiastically.  Since then I have changed my mind.  Outright racism and bigotry have found a place in our community.  Outright racism and bigotry are tolerated by the admins of this community. Outright racism and bigotry have found a home on DailyKos.  HarveyMilk led the charge with his now deleted blackface diary and an extremely conditional apology (don't believe the "unconditional apology" hype). Tonight memekiller followed the lead.  Who will post the next one?  How many good people will leave as a result?

Dodd Isn't Leading

Fri Oct 19, 2007 at 05:03:39 PM PDT

At a bare minimum, they need to be willing to vote to sustain the filibuster. Anything less says "I am not willing to stand strong against George W. Bush's assault on the Constitution." Leadership would entail participating. - MissLaura

Right now is the time for them to respond...do they stand with Dodd or with George Bush? - BarbinMD

I'm tired of words. At this point, the only thing that speaks is action. - kos

I'm tired of words too. I'm also tired of bullshit Bush style you're-with-us-or-you're-against-us framing.  That seems to be Standard Operating Procedure on the front page now, so I guess I'll play along.

Fri Aug 24, 2007 at 07:52:15 AM PDT

Senator Brownback sat with the Topeka Capital-Journal's editorial board on Thursday and proved over and over again that he's one big bowl of crazy.  Join me below for some funtastic quotes.

Damn you, Al Gore!

Fri Aug 10, 2007 at 01:20:46 PM PDT

Why did Al Gore have to invent global warming?  The heat index is 187 degrees today.  I have a turkey roasting in my car.  I'll be serving Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings from the passenger's seat right after work.  Stop by if you're in the neighborhood.

Kossacks Under 35: Writing Your Resume

Thu Jul 19, 2007 at 06:01:45 PM PDT

Resumés, Résumés, Resumes...we all have them.  We spend hours crafting, refining, and, let's call it embellishing that wonderful document.  We mail them and fax them, email and post to employment sites, and wait desperately for that special phone call to schedule an interview.  Millions of people sending out millions of resumes and someone has to read them.

That someone is me.

Supreme Court Justice John Yoo Thanks You for Your Support

Tue May 22, 2007 at 07:00:45 PM PDT

Based on what I'm reading today it looks like everyone is bolting from the party. Nader is a god again.  Reid and Pelosi are worse than Hitler. They sold us out!  They are traitors!  I want my money back! 2008 is just around the corner and we're going to send them a message.  4 more years of Republican rule will show the Democrats that we mean business.  We'll give  back the House and Senate, too.  After all, there's no difference between Democrats and Republicans.

I'm here to tell you one thing: Supreme Court Justice John Yoo thanks you for your support.

It's Official: Obama Killed the Bees

Wed May 02, 2007 at 07:48:37 PM PDT

"If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe, then man would only have four years of life left." - The Prophecies of Einstein, III Century, 7th Quatrain

It's My Way or the Highway, Kos!

Thu Feb 08, 2007 at 05:00:13 PM PDT

Markos, come into my office and have a seat.  We need to have a little chat.

I know this is your site. I know you started it from the ground up.  I understand that you assume all the risk, pay all the bills, offer use of the site for free and do everything in your power to ensure that the site is a raging success.  You get an A+ for effort.

Now to the problem at hand.  It seems that you have confused ownership with the right to make decisions on how you run your site.

Iowa GOP Rewards Failure

Dkos Book Club: The Partly Cloudy Patriot

Sat Jan 13, 2007 at 11:09:28 AM PDT

Welcome fellow bibliophiles.  Today we are going to discuss Sarah Vowell's The Partly Cloudy Patriot.  Winter has hit hard here on the plains, so I'm going to bundle up, brew some coffee, throw another Republican fundraiser letter on the fire and settle in.  Join me below the flip for some of my favorite passages.
