Infanticide Follies

Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 08:47:55 AM PDT

You'd think from the national press coverage, Jill Stanek is just your typical Pro-Life Activist.  Not so much.  I've been covering Jill for going on six years now and she never fails to disappoint about bringing the crazy.

She’s been making the rounds and is even being treated seriously by the New York Times–something local Illinois reporters have largely stopped doing because they learned.

Here are my archives of Stanek’s craziness followed by some of my favorites

...you’re more upset with the fact that I said s*&$ ...

Sat Mar 15, 2008 at 03:26:02 PM PDT

"I have three things I’d like to say today. First, while you were sleeping last night, 30,000 kids died of starvation or diseases related to malnutrition. Second, most of you don’t give a shit. What’s worse is that you’re more upset with the fact that I said shit than the fact that 30,000 kids died last night."

Oberweis: Millionaire's Amendment? I Don't Need No Stinkin' Laws

Tue Feb 26, 2008 at 06:52:37 PM PDT

Jim Oberweis is on his fourth run for office having finally won a primary election.  One might think with all of that experience as a candidate, Oberweis might have figured out the campaign finance system.

Apparently not.  It seems he didn't notify his opponent when he crossed the threshold of the millionaire's amendment.  From the DCCC:

Your Rezko Primer

Thu Jan 24, 2008 at 12:50:48 AM PDT

Since Rezko has become an issue in the Presidential race, I am creating a sort of primer for the relationship between Obama and Rezko over the years. It will only touch on the issues with Rezko and his indictments as related to Obama as I don't have nearly the time it would take to show Rezko's involvement with Blagojevich and others.

Obama Follows His Mentor Lieberman Again

Tue Jan 15, 2008 at 03:42:37 PM PDT

We all know the close connection Obama has with Joe Lieberman and what a LieberDem he is, but Richard Cohen connects the dots on Obama making it clear Obama and his mentor are both closet anti-semites.

Barack Obama is a member of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ. Its minister, and Obama's spiritual adviser, is the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. In 1982, the church launched Trumpet Newsmagazine; Wright's daughters serve as publisher and executive editor. Every year, the magazine makes awards in various categories. Last year, it gave the Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. Trumpeter Award to a man it said "truly epitomized greatness." That man is Louis Farrakhan.

Anyone who would associate with someone who associates with someone who associates with someone who likes Farrakhan is a danger to the Jewish population of the world and must be stopped.

Actually, the Polls Were Pretty Good

Wed Jan 09, 2008 at 10:57:39 AM PDT

They were fine, the assumptions people (including me) made about the undecideds were wrong.

Obama

Pollster Standard Estimator in NH  36.7%
Sensitive 39%
Last 5 38.4%

Edwards

SE:  18.4%
Sensitive:  18.6%
Last 5 18.2 %

Final Tally NH
Clinton 39%
Obama 36%
Edwards 17%The Republican numbers were very close to with McCain picking up 5 points.

It’s the undecideds, not something wrong with the polls.

When Pandering Doesn't Work--Immigrant Bashing Fails in Iowa

Sun Jan 06, 2008 at 05:49:34 PM PDT

Joshua Hoyt, Executive Director of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, points out that scary brown people aren't nearly as scary as immigrant bashers would like you to think:

The results are in. In a state where voters had a clear choice to vote for Romney's tough stance on illegal immigration in the Republican caucuses, they instead turned out in historic numbers to vote Democratic. There they picked Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), who has unabashedly advocated an earned path to citizenship for the undocumented.

On the Republican side, Romney, despite his overwhelming funding advantage, came up short. University of Iowa polls showed that 57 percent of Iowa voters favored earned citizenship for the undocumented and only 23 percent favored deportation.

Brown Blames Locals, But Implicates Himself in the NYT

Wed Sep 14, 2005 at 08:33:11 PM PDT

Mike Brown is interviewed by the New York Times and claims that he couldn't get the locals to tell him what they needed and they were not in control of the situation.

The problem with this theory is that a FEMA employee did the original damage assessment Monday, August 29th before dusk.  If Brown didn't understand the situation on the ground, it's because he wasn't talking to his own employees.

The Absolute Failure of State and Local Officials Facing A Hurricane: Hurricane Ivan

Wed Sep 07, 2005 at 11:38:58 PM PDT

(From the diaries -- kos)

This is cross posted at ArchPundit, though this version is slightly updated.

Two pieces of information have become famous in wingnut circles over the last few days, but they are quoted out of context and completely miss the the extent of the preparation the City of New Orleans was undertaking for a hurricane such as Katrina.

The first piece of information the Right Wing Noise Machine is trying to argue is that the City of New Orleans didn't follow its hurricane plan as contained in the The City of New Orleans Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan Annex I: Hurricanes. The second piece of information is that the City of New Orleans had no plan for sheltering its citizens who did not have their own transportation with which to flee with portions of this article from the Times-Picayune from July 24th.

Jeff Smith For Missouri State Senate, Rising to a New Challenge

Thu Jun 30, 2005 at 01:00:17 PM PDT

Jeff doesn't have posting privileges yet, so he asked me to let the Kos community know about his entry into an open seat race for Missouri Senate. The Kos community was very good to Jeff in his race for Dick Gephardt's seat in 2004 and he greatly appreciates it.  He came within 1800 votes of beating Russ Carnahan and that was largely due to the support of grass roots and net roots supporters from all over.
